GREEN OFFICE ETSAV - Decarbonizing ETSAV!

GREEN OFFICE ETSAV, located at the CISOL, is an new initiative supported by GBCe (Green Building Council Spain), through the collaboration program GBCe-Universities called "Decarbonizing my Diploma”, focused on raising students’ knowledge and awareness about the urgent decarbonization of the building sector. Within the GREEN OFFICE program at ETSAV 4 strategic projects related to this mission are carried out through student participation, linked to the elective course LOW3: Living Zero!, and supported by contracted student collaborators.

GoGreenETSAV (@goGreenEtsav): New information channel on Instagram which mixes information about decarbonization on national and international level with information on local initiatives, student projects at ETSAV, and architecture.

GREEN CUBE: Conversion of the SOLAR CUBE into a multifunctional module for Green initiatives, dissemination and activities towards the ETSAV community, as well as solar energy support for charging mobiles and laptops trough an autonomous PV system.

GREEN LAB: Intensification of the use and equipment of the LOW3 prototype house as a Living Lab on Green technologies in the context of sustainable housing and lifestyle.

SUSLA ETSAV: Evaluation of the Carbon Footprint of the ETSAV students and employees through our SUSLA carbon coaching app (www.susla.app) with the aim of implementing bottom-up initiatives for decarbonizing our community.

Many activities have already been carried out and many more will come! Join us!

RENE - Innovation and Co-creation Seminar 2022 ETSAV

A new edition of our Innovation and Co-creation Seminar has been held 5-8 of July for the InnoEnergy MSc Program "Renewable Energies"(RENE) with around 40 students from 17 different countries working on a “Holistic Sustainability Approach for Innovations.

The first day was dedicated to Innovation through the presentation and analysis of research projects in the three focus areas of Housing, Energy and Lifestyle.
Housing: Students got known to the innovative concepts of UPC's nearly zero energy buildings, exploring and analysing the technological concepts of the LOW3 prototype house in the fields of solar thermal, solar photovoltaic, HVAC, bioclimatic building management and energy monitoring systems, energy storage and circularity.
Besides, visits to the low-energy student residence of the campus and to the Savasco prototype building which explores low-impact building materials based on agricultural waste products, enriched the discussions on new approaches to sustainable buildings and cities.
Energy: Students got introduced into the results of the R4E - Roadmaps for Energy project (www.roadmapsforenergy.eu), getting known to the developed energy roadmaps for European partner cities in the field of Smart Buildings, Smart Urban Spaces and Smart Mobility to discuss energy transition of society in the coming decades.

Lifestyle: Students got introduced to the international Sustainable Lifestyle Accelerator project 2018-2021 (www.suslifespain.blogspot.com), where UPC collaborates with international partners from 7 counties in the reduction of the environmental impact of private households. Students tested the Carbon Coaching App SUSLA (www.susla.app) and calculated their own lifestyle carbon footprint.

Finally, students co-created in dynamic group sessions through a story-telling approach concepts for “a more sustainable urban life in 2030” focusing on innovative product and service ideas.
This ninth collaboration with the MSc Program RENE of KIC InnoEnergy confirms again that the LOW3 Living Lab offers a valuable contribution to engineer students’ education through its holistic approach to sustainability, bringing together in one place the important topics of Housing, Energy and Lifestyle.
