6th SUSTAINABLE SUMMER SCHOOL 2014

Under the theme “Creative Transition towards Sustainability” the 6th Sustainable Summer School took place at the Living Lab LOW3 of UPC-Barcelona Tech from 3d to 5th of November 2014.
13 international PhD students, 6 academic team members and 6 invited experts contributed to a successful 3-days event at the ETSAV campus at Sant Cugat.
The pluridisciplinary approach of the workshop, with designers, architects, engineers, sociologists and economists among the participants, led to intense discussions and fruitful conversations about the technologic, socio-economic, sociologic and environmental aspects of sustainability. Individual research topics were presented and discussed.

Local and international experts gave their input and participated actively in the debates.
In a group exercise, the different approaches to sustainability were visualized through the development of a common “Vision 2030”. The different research topics and working hypothesis of the participating researchers had to be integrated in order to first negotiate and then holistically visualize and defend an overall vision for their specific “pathway towards sustainability”.
Programmed in November as the 6th event of this type, this “late summer” school at Barcelona was hosted at the Living Lab LOW3, an energy self-sufficient solar house that allowed the creation of a personalized, almost domestic atmosphere, encouraging an open and collaborative working ambience, and an ideal place for socializing with a great variety of people in a short time.
The organizing team from Wuppertal Institute, Folkwang University, Ecosign and UPC-Barcelona Tech will soon think about a new edition for 2015.
